What The Pro's Are Saying
"The Players Tour is a fabulous concept, the standard of golf is high and the ‘behind the scenes’ even higher.
It’s crucial for the development of the tour to be run smoothly, efficiently and at good venues. With those ideals already at the forefront Jon & Richard will create a great opportunity for us all! Good luck"
Andrew Murray former European Open Champion
"The Players Tour is a superbly organised developmental tour I would recommend to golfers who are looking for fierce competition on quality courses.
Both Jon and Richard know what players are looking for in tournaments and go out of their way to accommodate. From yardage planners to physios and most things in between every thing is done in a friendly and first class manner."
Paul Eales former winner on the European Tour
"The Players Tour provides a great opportunity to play competitive golf against proven players from both the professional and amateur ranks at first class courses.
With knowledgeable and professional behind the scenes organisation the Tour is already providing strong fields and an excellent spread of the prize purse.
Good luck for the future with what should, on the basis of the first few events, become a strong development tour."
Dave Smith, MEN Open Winner 2007

CAPPER WINS AGAIN AT BOLTON OLD LINKS
Steven Capper showed the field a clean pair of heels for back to back wins on the tour. A second straight 65 including 31 on the back nine could also be a new record for the lengthened par 72 layout to match his feat at North Manchester. The win has catapulted him to second in the money list from only 5 events and into contention for the order of merit awards with 6 events left yet this season.
With the late starters for once dominating proceedings, Didsbury's
Danny Wardrop, taking a rest from his exertions on the European Challenge Tour, took second place on 67 despite a number of missed opportunities. With
Barry Taylor once again well up the leaderboard tying third with Tour newcomer
Alex Murrell from Eden Golf Club on 68.
On a day of low scoring 69's were returned by Joe Senior, Tim Maxwell - steady as ever, and Nick Sargent. A further six players recorded two under 70's with eight players on 71 sharing the last two prize money places.
Peter Seal proved that persistence pays off with his first win in the Seniors section while
Lee Irvine from Worsleuy Marriot with a fine 70 reminded Olly Smith that the Amateur Order of Merit, sponsored by Galvin Green through Jonathan Gallagher Golf Agencies, is not over yet.
As usual the day was not without it's dramas headed by Dave Smith and Frank Kiddie. Dave's birdie attempt at 16 just missed which would have taken him to 7 under before a disastrous 5, 7 finsh saw him fall back to 70. While Frank looked in control of the seniors at plus 1 through 12 until a 9 at the 13th put paid to his chances.
The day was another succes with the host club providing the players with yet another finely presented course and execellent hospitality in the clubhouse.
The Order of Merit race is hotting up, although Barry Taylor has opened up a bit of a gap. However, with awards down to fifth and nearly 1500 points still on offer for event winners he will be keeping an eye on Steve Capper amongst others as he tries to secure the first prize of £1,000.
We have a two week break now before Ellesmere, with their superb greens, then Fairhaven former host of Final qualifying for the Open Championship among many other prestigous events.
MAIDEN WINS FOR HANCOCK AND WESSELINGH AT HAZEL GROVE
Stand's Mark Hancock
and Paul Wesselingh
from Keddleston Park left the field standing with two magnificent 66's in trying condidtions at Hazel Grove.
On a testing windy and showery day with some tricky pin positions on the greens both players prospered but in very contrasting but no less commendable style. Both late starters Mark scorched round the front nine in 4 under 31 including two 2's and an eagle at the 7th. He then held on despite a bogey at 13 with two more birdies to leave the clubhouse leaders on 69 standing.
This looked to be a sure winner until Paul suddenly found the measure of the greens. At 2 over on the 7th tee an eagle there saw him turn in level. Birdie, bogey, birdie(4,4,4) over the next three didn't suggest too much but then a 3,3,3,3,4,3 finish saw him home in 5 under 31 for a tie at the top.
Prior to the late fireworks a series of 69's had looked like producing a multiple tie for first. Earlybird and leaderboard regular,
Gary Donnison moved into second on the Order of Merit with his 69. He was soon followed by
David Mackinnon, whose three putt on 18 was costly, and
David Thwaites, both players showing a welcome return to form. Not to be outdone St Annes Old Links winner
Darren Cain was next in shortly after followed by North Manchester runner up
Tim Maxwell, also with a three putt at 18.
Colin Maroney and Thomas Higson completed the top placings with level par returns of 71.
The amateurs were headed by local evergreen
Andrew Hill, one of Cheshire's top players for well over thiry years now, on 73.
With the season now past the halfway mark the Order of Merit race is warming up with a few players now moving into contention as Barry Taylor and Steve Parry have allowed the gap to close. With six regular events left yet, plus the Par Three Challenge at Adlington where reduced points will be available, there's still much to play for with awards to the top five.
Next up is Bolton Old Links on Thursday 3 July. A good field is already entered with many more likely as the Europro Tour takes a break.
LOCAL MAN GRANT WINS AT PIKE FOLD
Grant Hamerton of the home club and Cheadle's
Anthony Millar topped the field at the fourball event at Pike Fold. Despite a small field the scoring was tight with their 10 under just edging out in form
David Smith and his partner
Mark Hancock, Stand, who pointed out that he provided most of the birdies in their 9 under 62. Despite both players eagling the tricky 9th hole they couldn't match the 10 birdie return of the winners.
Third place saw a tie between Harry Proos and amateur partner Mikail Tchobanian with Ian Finnis and Danny Belch on 64. The ever presents of Barry Taylor and Steve Parry for once had to make do with the minor placings taking fifth on 65, 6 under.
The players were very complimentary about the new layout particularly the condition of the new nine which is still only a few months old.
CAPPER BLITZES THE FIELD AT NORTH MANCHESTER
Caldy's
Steven Capper was quick to make amends for his three putt at the last which cost him a share of first place at Wychwood Park with a
Course Record tying six under 65 at North Manchester. Two halves of three under with no bogies quickly put paid to the dominance of the early morning starters giving him an emphatic three shot win. His first as a professional.
The early pace was set by first out
Tim Maxwell on 68 following a birdie birdie birdie finish to leapfrog his playing partner
Lee Rooke whose three pars left him on 69. The next match out saw
Tom Atkinson produce another 69 with partner
Colin Maroney on 70 meaning that the first four out all broke par shortly followed by
Gary Donnison(again!) and
Mike Kanski(again!) both with 69. It looked like the early birds would take the spoils until Steven's record round.
Even so it wasn't until the second to last match out that the par of 71 was beaten again.
Dave Smith fresh from his course record 61 in his win at the Brough Classic produced more fireworks in a four under back nine of 31 for the fifth 69 of the day. Playing partner
Nick Sargent returned a 70 to give some balance to the day's scoring.
With both Barry Taylor and Steve Parry, one and two in the order or merit 'away the players took advantage of an opportunity to close the gap which was beginning to look quite ominous.
The amateurs were headed by Worsley's Lee Irvine on 73 with local man Drew Roberts just behind on 74.
Players are reminded that we have now reduced the senior section to 45 and over.
Clitheroe's Stuart Andrew basks in the Spring sunshine after his success in the 36 hole event at the Vale of Llangollen where his second round 65 spreadeagled the field on route to a four shot win.
The Tour has been formed by professionals for professionals it is designed with you the player in mind. It combines fantastic venues, great prize funds, and first class administration all at realistic prices.
